Last month Google team announced a new educational tool within the suite of Google Apps for Education : Classroom
In a previous article we discussed the feature of this tool and its benefits to simplify the workflow between teachers and students. A few days ago Google has integrated more about this tool, with this little video showing the operation of Classroom.
Based on this new content and impressions shared some teachers who are already testing Classroom, go over some specific parts of the proposed dynamic Google with this tool.
Create a class
The first thing you have to do to know the experience provided by this tool is to create a class. The procedure is very simple, and we just have to go to “+” we will see in the top of the home page and we will open this box:
Create Class google room
We just have to complete the data requested by us and in a few clicks we created our first class, as shown in the video will look like this:
Page class is composed of two sections. The teachers can create stream ” ads “or” Assignments “. In the tab for “Students” have all necessary to keep track of all students belonging to the class options.
If we want we can customize the head of our class. We will have a small gallery that allows us to choose from different themes to give a proper look to the space we have created for our class, and it is visually identifiable.
In general, teachers need to create more than one class, how can find all classes that have been created ? There are two ways.
One is directly from “Home” to show us all the classes that we created in small boxes to Pinterest style. Each box will give us information of the class, the number of students, as well as options to rename or delete it. And we will have a direct link to Google Drive folder that corresponds to the content that will be created during class.
The other option is to go to the sidebar (such as Google+) where you will see a list of all the classes we have created to direct them to only select.
To do this we have to go to the “Students” tab is the place to manage them. We will have the option to add students, remove or send email. We can add students through the directory or the code provided to us.
In addition to the available in this section code, we also always visible on the main page of the class, where we can reset it or delete it.
When we want to assign tasks or projects our students find that Google has taken into account almost everything to provide us with this process.
We just have to go to the stream, select ” Assignments “and noted a title, a description and the turnaround time. But we will find the ability to upload files, documents integrate Google Drive, choose YouTube or paste a link reference.
If you add files from Google Drive, we can grant different permissions directly from the stream: you only see a file, view and edit or create a copy for each student.
So an assignment students are in your stream :
Plus a preview of the assignment, a warning is integrated into those expiring his term.
So you see a stream allocation in the teacher :
You can see real-time preview of the prior assignment. That is, the number of students who have completed the work, and how many remain to deliver.
For each assignment a page is created .
Teachers can manage all work from that space: show students who have given the tasks, who are pending, review each of the given assignments, consult the doubts of the students rated the content and give feedback.
Meanwhile, students in their space can see the additional instructions that has integrated the teacher as well as options for creating various documents, integrate files, links, notes, videos, etc.. Everything you need to create the job to be submitted.
There are different ways in which teachers and students can interact. One is through the stream, creating a group conversation .
Every time the teacher creates an ad, students can comment or provide new ideas under publication. Or the students themselves can create publications seeking help from other students or adding new information on a debate or task set.
Moreover, the mappings allow direct communication between teacher and student . When a student receives an assignment you can create an individual conversation with the teacher.
In addition, the teacher can give feedback to correct their task not only giving a score, but also leaving comments on the material presented.
Classroom dynamics proposed is very dynamic and although it has many options to customize the workflow is intuitive enough to still educators who are not familiar with this virtual environment can rapidly grasp its essence.
According to the Google team, Classroom may be available in September, so far only a limited group is testing its features.
And thanks to the feedback from these users who are evaluating the tool may see a final version with features that are better adapted to the needs of both teachers and students
